TARGET PRACTICE
Artist: Chigozie Obi
Title: Target Practice, 2020
Medium: Oil on canvas pad
Chigozie Obi’s art mirrors the somewhat refreshing moment symbolised by a drenched individual following the #EndSARS saga. The oil on canvas painting titled, “Target practice, 2020,’’ reflects on the massacre at the Lekki Toll plaza in October 2020. Parts of Obi’s commentary on the artwork read thus, “I feel so much anger, I feel helpless, I feel tired, I feel drained. My chest has been tight since yesterday. People have died. People have been hurt. I curse Nigerian politicians at every point of the day not because I believe it will work but because it's all I can do. The only thing that seems to help right now is my art. I had to channel these feelings into it. We can't all leave this country and I refuse to keep living like this.’’
