GOOD COP, BAD COP
Artist: Julius Agbaje
Title: GOOD COP, BAD COP, 2020
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Julius Agbaje’s acrylic on canvas painting titled, “Good cop, Bad cop,’’ is an ugly sketch of a Nigerian cop symbolising the image of the nation’s police after encounters with them. On the cop’s neck is a tag “duplicity and theft” and his helmet is inscribed ‘polies (perhaps satirical)’ and the cop wears dark glasses. The foregoing captures a typical image of the Nigerian police the artist visualises and further strengthened with a monkey-like face.
The visual artist states, “I have been actively creating works on police brutality for at least three years now. Since my personal encounters with the NPF (Nigeria Police Force) and FSARS (the disbanded Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad) respectively. This matter no be joke.’’
